Frequently Asked Questions

How do I send in my transcript to Panhellenic Council?
All transcripts should be delivered to the OSAL office at 1071 Webb Center on or before September 21st.

How much does it cost to go through Fall Formal Recruitment?
There is a $15.00 registration fee for recruitment that includes a t-shirt and lunch on Saturday.

How much does a sorority cost?
Financial responsibility is extremely important to every chapter on campus. The expenses of belonging to a sorority vary, and the first semester of membership is often the most expensive. The chart below indicates the high, low and average cost for the sororities on campus. Outside of these basic fees are additional expenses that some chapters may make optional. Many of the chapters require each new member to pay a one-time corporation assessment and initiation fee. A sorority badge is also purchased on or before initiation. Most fees are usually paid by the semester, but many chapters offer alternative payment plans.

High Low Average
New Member $628 $493 $570
Initiated Member $400 $180 $290

Can I go through Recruitment as an upperclassman?
Yes. As long as you have not accepted a bid from an NPC sorority in the past calendar year, or been initiated into an NPC sorority, you may go through Recruitment.

Is there a required GPA to go through Recruitment?
To participate in Fall Formal Recruitment, prospective members must follow the minimum grade requirement set forth by the Panhellenic Council. A 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) is required to go through recruitment. Prospective members who are on any other grading scale, such as a 100- point scale, must convert their GPA to a 4.0 scale on their recruitment registration form.

What should I expect to receive after registering for Recruitment?
Immediately after completing registration, you will receive a confirmation email. Potential New Members will receive their Recruitment t-shirts at orientation at the start of Recruitment.

What is a Rho Gamma?
The Panhellenic Council trains a special group of women, known as Rho Gammas (RG), for the purpose of providing a more enjoyable and less stressful atmosphere during membership recruitment weekend. All RGs remain unaffiliated during Recruitment. This enables them to answer questions and guide you without concerns to the RGs feelings toward a particular chapter. Your RG will provide information about the weekend, accompany you to recruitment events and provide a listening ear as you make decisions concerning sorority membership.

What if I hear rumors?
It is possible that during recruitment you may hear rumors about chapters or chapter members. Speaking unfavorably about a chapter, chapter member or another prospective member could result in influencing someone’s recruitment experience and hurting someone’s feelings. A prospective member’s concern should be learning about those chapters in which she is most interested. If you encounter any negative comments or behavior from the chapter members or other prospective members, please report it. Questions and concerns should be directed to your Rho Gammas or the recruitment staff. It is strongly encouraged that you report any incident as soon as possible.

What if I choose not to join a sorority during Recruitment?
If you feel that joining a sorority is not right for you, or you need more time to learn about each one, you have the option of dropping out of FFR. This is NOT frowned upon, because when joining any organization it's important to be ready and enthusiastic. IF you choose to wait, you may register again in one calendar year.

I'm interested in more than one sorority. What if I can't choose the right one for me?
Many women that come through the recruitment process feel a connection to more than one sorority. After meeting all of the members and experiencing each chapter, it's likely that you will have strong feelings for one or two. If you have any concerns, your Rho Gamma is there to give unbiased advice to help you reach the best decision for YOU. It is important to remember that each sorority has special qualities to offer and can enrich your life in many ways- so keep an open mind!
